IASSIS MEDICAL Leads Greece’s Digital Healthcare Transformation with Springer Publication Recognition

IASSIS Medical’s digital innovation in medical tourism has been recognized in Springer’s IACuDiT 2024 publication. Discover how the “Fly Test Center” in Zakynthos set new standards in travel health facilitation.

In an era where digitalization is reshaping industries, IASSIS Medical has emerged as a prominent contributor to healthcare innovation—particularly within the scope of medical tourism. Through strategic development and the launch of the digital platform “Fly Test Center” in Zakynthos, IASSIS not only addressed an urgent global health need during the COVID-19 pandemic but also set a new benchmark for digital health facilitation in Greece.

This groundbreaking initiative and its impact have been formally documented and recognized in international academic literature. Specifically, IASSIS Medical’s work is featured in the 2024 collective volume published by Springer, titled “Digital Transformation and Innovation in Tourism, Events and Hospitality. IACuDiT 2024.” Chapter 12 of the volume—“Digital Tools for Medical Travel Facilitation: The Case of Fly Test Center in Zakynthos”—offers a detailed case study co-authored by Angelina Giakoumi and Dr. Constantinos Halkiopoulos.

The study highlights the critical role IASSIS played in developing a fully digital infrastructure to support PCR and rapid testing for tourists. The “Fly Test Center” allowed international travelers to book COVID-19 tests online in a multilingual, user-friendly environment. Through a seamless interface, users could select their test type, schedule appointments, and choose from various testing locations across Zakynthos. The initiative was complemented by targeted digital marketing campaigns, which included strategic Google Ads and keyword optimization, resulting in over 113,000 impressions and thousands of test bookings in just three months.

From August to October 2021 alone, IASSIS conducted over 13,700 tests across five regional units. This level of operational efficiency, driven by digital transformation, played a vital role in restoring travel confidence, especially during a period marked by uncertainty and regulatory complexity.

The inclusion of IASSIS Medical’s work in a Springer publication not only validates its pioneering role but also cements its position in the international bibliography of tourism and crisis-driven innovation. This distinction underscores the organization’s contribution to the evolving dialogue around smart healthcare services, digital facilitation in tourism, and medical readiness in emergency contexts.

IASSIS Medical continues to lead by example in merging medical excellence with technological innovation—paving the way for a more connected, responsive, and resilient future in medical travel.
